In the words of the Sermon on the Mount,
the words of love on the mountainside
the seeds of the words, Christ’s actions,
Jesus choosing the cross;
the Savior loving His enemies,
those who would persecute Him,
knowing the weight of His sacrifice
the healing He could make
Choosing the pain, the shame
the nails of the cross
bringing reconciliation, life eternal
hope for all of mankind;
Choosing to love , to model love,
even for those who would spit in His face
an example for the ages
to all who claim Christ’s name

“changing
the wind”
Based on the comments of Jim
Wallis on
Speaking of Faith, November 29,
2007
He was talking about whether to
change politicians
or change the wind, to change
the public opinion
which guides politics. He used
the example
of President Johnson’s statement
to the
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. that it would
take 5 years for a voting
rights bill but
it actually took 5 months to
pass the Voting Rights Act,
after the March in Selma.
