Eyes I have seen countless times
the eyes of my brother
speaking of God’s love;
Lifting the lame, the injured
wiping a child’s tears.
Standing there in the courts
hiding in the shadows
denying my Savior’s name;
Cursing denials that I knew Him
warmed by the fire, those flames.
As the cock crowed,
just as He had said
a realization of His prophecy;
My Savior turned toward me
within the gravity of my pain.
What I had caused Him, hurting,
in my denial of my Savior,
my brother, my Lord;
Standing on trial for me
and yet I denied His name.
Looking into the eyes of Jesus
I was utterly convicted
of my sin, my stain, my burden;
Weeping bitterly in anguish
wishing I no longer lived.
