Into the eyes of Jesus

The eyes I have seen countless times
speaking of God’s love
lifting the lame, the injured
wiping a child’s tears

Standing there in the courts
denying my Savior’s name
cursing denials that I knew him
warmed by the fire, the flames

As the cock crows as he had said
a realization of his prophecy
my Savior turned toward me
in the gravity of my pain

What I had caused him
my brother, my Lord
standing on trial for me
and yet I denied his name

Looking into the eyes of Jesus
convicted of my sin
weeping bitterly in anguish
wishing I no longer lived.
