We set a place for Jesus

Thinking of the moment
how recently it was
we set a place for Jesus
at our dinner table with us
at the head of the table
opposite my place at the table
reminding us of his love
yet we soon piled the place with clutter
the things of our days
the binders and the hairbands
the scraps of empty paper
the things out of the book bags
as the girls come how from school
our mail, sometimes a report card,
gathering there at the table
the place we set for Jesus
to remind us of his love
