Forty days of focus
reflection on his journey
the walk of our Lord
heading to eternity
Going before us
setting the example
the righteous life
by the spirit of the law
Walking toward Jerusalem
from the countryside
into the center
the belly of the beast
Shining his light
glowing since the mountain
the spirit guiding him
on the journey to the cross
Putting a spotlight
on the hypocrisy of the leaders
the rigid dogma
forgetting the love of God
Showing a different model
a loving presence
choosing to heal and sooth
the ache of the people
Pressing on, leading inward
to the triumphant entry
into David’s city
fulfilling the prophecies
Teaching the disciples
preparing them for later
after he had gone
to sit back upon his throne
Suffering for us,
choosing to sacrifice
to take on our sin
a living example of love
Climbing the cross
dying in anguish
the stain of our sing
the full price forever paid
Rising on the third day
ascending into glory
the rest of us waiting
for his return some day
