How many times do we struggle
the focus for our lives
maybe too often to number
wanting to get it right
Listening to the others
the ones still in the boat
not going out of our comfort
fearing to get our feet wet
Hearing our master
standing on the water before us
calling our name with his blessing
to serve as we are led
Needing to heed the master
to go when we are called
up onto the living waters
held up by his endless love

We too can surely walk
Like the rock, buoyed on the waves
on the waters of life
leaving the boat
our comfort, our pews
the four walls of our sanctuaries
We too can surely walk
on the stormy waters
our eyes on Christ
leaning on the cornerstone
Daring to live ever
following the call of your word
speaking to us
deep within our hearts

Walking on Water
Unlike the others
huddled in the boat
afraid, frozen by the winds
the waves, crashing on the sides
He went when the master called
walking on the water toward the Lord
fear when the winds would wail
crying for the master’s hand
Trying to be faithful
to heed the shepherd’s voice
a prelude for his work
once the spirit
fell upon him in grace
Leaving the nets by the shore
following the savior’s lead
leaving the boat
for the water’s skin
his faith enough to stand
Called to follow in his steps
the rock upon the waves
to serve our fellow man
in ways revealed by God
Each of us has a part
a gift to do the work
to follow our savior’s way
to pick up our cross and walk
