of the fatted calf
poured out on the altar
God wanting more from us
offering our lives instead
That we would be
willing and obedient
servants of the living God
messengers of his love
Washed clean by Christ’s blood
the sins we could not repay
wiped from the record of our lives
to go another way
Ours to seek justice
to help those in need
to lift up those who are oppressed
ambassadors of God
in every word and deed
Not in burnt offerings
but in the changing of our hearts
submitting to God’s holy plan
joyfully doing our part
