Our Own Mortality

Two men, having earned
their penalty
the judgment of the law
too late to repent
too late for sacrifice
too late to live
a new life

Yet here we find mercy
the forgiveness of sin
the reward of the humble
eternity to begin

In paradise with our Savior
the gift of the cross
in turning, redemption
being saved from the lost.

Woman, behold your son: behold your mother
(John 19:26-27).
My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?
(Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34).
I thirst
(John 19:28).
It is finished
(John 19:30).
Father, into your hands I commit my spirit
(Luke 23:46).
