Abandonment on the Cross

Christ’s agony, alone
before the maddening crowd
those who sought to persecute him
dying on the cross
without God, his presence
aching for that connection
Christ crying out in pain, to almighty God.

Crying out to his Father, to God:
“My God, My God, why
have you forsaken me?”
Faithful to every word of the Law
fulfilling every word of prophesy
walking as God had led him,
never denying the will of God.

The weight of our sin upon him
become the Lamb, the sacrifice
infused with our iniquity
ready to pay our price.
God crying out in heaven
darkness on this land
for sacrifice, the dying Son of Man
