The necks of the ferns
rising in the warm ground
the fiddleheads opening
like the wings of
butterflies
Blood making them rigid
colors becoming richer
the ferns unfurling, darker
like massive sails of the
undergrowth
Warming even without sunlight
filtered in the mist of the
morning
a blanket in the forest, a
carpet,
green an endless sight
