Coming to the Christ
in the house of another
seeking healing, wholeness
an uninvited guest
an outcast, an other,
coming right to him
Christ responding,
open to the longing,
healing him, loving him
but first questioning,
the content of their faith
in the cold words alone
Christ healing, touching,
showing real compassion
even on the Sabbath
bringing wholeness, healing
for this stranger
in the place where he was
Giving a lesson, teaching,
upturning their theology
changing their whole world
the rules that they lived by
showing the limits of their
faith,
not nearly enough
God’s love greater, real
calling us to welcome
all those in need, our
neighbors
offering ourselves freely
giving help to the stranger,
to all who are in need
