“Wow! Can you smell that?”,
I exclaimed in the woods.
“It smells like Christmas,
like my birthday,
that time when we got
our own Christmas tree.”
Her response waking memory
a much colder forest
snow knee deep
in the wintry wood.
The fir and balsam
brighter green in summer
the goldenrod, the ragweed
in full bloom.
Exiting the wood lot
coming to the pond,
cattails and wood ducks,
bees all around.
