the pen of the poet
sitting within the scene
drawing the image
held in his view, his vision
the word picture emerging;
sitting beyond the shore
gazing out on the water
a flock of Canadian Geese
floating in the morning
that words soon would flow
his pen moving, running
racing, in rhythm, flowing
across the journal page;
freed from time, convention
to slow his path, to breathe
to be centered wholly
beside the still of the lake
the hush of the morning
