Technically it is an
oxidation
a chemical process
a patina of green over the
pure metal beneath
Some would argue this is
a mere fact of the aging
process
The green is the soul
the anima, the living skin
over the sculpted and cast
face or body
Capturing the spark of life
within the subject,
the reason for its existence
to speak to all of us
Have you seen this truth
when you have looked
at the living statues
outdoor public sculptures
clothed in green copper?
They remind us
of the beauty within,
the living beings
that they once were.
