Our lament with those before
us
with David, with the people,
“How long, O Lord,
must I suffer in the
darkness;
how long with I travel
in this wilderness
lost in the briars, our
wandering,
in the struggles on this
journey
mired in spiritual pain?”
We know this lament, all too
well,
we journey under its weight
this cloak of sorrow
wanting to feel You
to be lifted from this
burden
these dead ends
to journey in the light
in your presence.
“How long,” we ask.
But we need to be patient
to wait on You
and Your holy wisdom
in whatever we do;
We need to give control
to Your Spirit, to Your way,
not our own, trusting in You
Your eternal goodness.
