the pen of the poet
sitting within the scene
drawing the image
the word picture,
held in his view, his vision;
sitting beyond the shore
gazing out on the water
was a small flock of Canadian Geese
that words soon would flow
his pen moving, running,
racing, in rhythm, flowing
across the journal page;
freed from time, convention,
to slow his path, to breathe fully
to be centered wholly,
beside the still of that lake
