like the sphinx and the unicorn
we saw jungle ponies
in the clouds
stampeding across the sky
as the storm rolled in
off the Atlantic
We looked for them deep
in the rainforest
thought we heard their hooves
the pounding of the underbrush
at the footfalls of the stallions
but they were hidden from sight
shy creatures after all
we know they are there
running free in the jungle
their native home
