We both saw it
she began to pray
a simple urgent prayer
“Lord, can I please have a dog?”
but, it wasn’t something expected
no, there was no warning
she dropped to her knees
her four-year old knees
still wearing pajama pants
though 11am
summer after all
but she fell to her knees
to pray
hands folded in reverent
little-girl prayer
A quick Amen,
after prompting,
after she had risen
sealing the prayer
to her God
