I was low on cash
been studying too long.
The sign in the window read
“Three pieces
of day-old
cold fried chicken
$1.00.”
Words to warm
a grad student’s heart
No macaroni and cheese today!
How simple the pleasures of something so grand
so serene, sublime
than a bargain
to eat
When pennies
and minutes
are short
when the frig is a mess
and the sink is full
and another paper is due.
