Watching Christ
sitting at the table
speaking words unlike the others
always the same before
Hushed, in that moment
the smell of the candles, the oil
the cooking thick in the room
dust washed from our feet
Watching intently
raising the bread from the platter
speaking of his body
to be broken for all of us
Rush of emotions,
were we lost, foresaken
the chosen one with us
about to meet his death
With tears running
down my face taking
my piece of the bread
choking it down, eating
His words more pointed
raising the chalice
the wine his blood
to be poured out in sacrifice
The sweet nectar bitter
all enjoyment now gone
drinking of the cup he gave
solemn, looking to the ground
So much to take in
overwhelmed by these words
quiet as we finished the meal
