The words he spoke dripping
the room, the elements, the words
all of this laden with meaning
as we sat for the Passover Seder
Looking to one another
each of us wondering
what the master was saying
as he spoke these new words
Oh I wish he hadn’t said them
that the bread was his body
the cup of our salvation
his blood poured out in sacrifice
Wanting to be there with him
remembering the exodus
repeating the ancient world
that he would stay with us
Solemn around our table
each of us silent
disbelieving, as we ate the bread
in shocked realization
The cup of his blood,
raised to each lip
in that now-holy moment
when he made the new covenant
