After the supper, after the Seder
the words forever changed
after the supper
the sharing of the bread
the cup, the new words he shared
after Judas ran away
In the garden, the place, Gethsemane
tired, heavy with sleep
Christ going forward,
with Peter, with James, with John
while we were heavy with sleep
Watching our master
from a distance, he was praying
physically, seeing his torment
anguish in that moment, under the heavens
wondering what lay in store
as night would turn to day
Approaching the others
the disciples who went with him
they like us, heavy, fatigued, longing sleep
wishing we could hear, or maybe better not too
the stern rebuke from our master’s voice
All so suddenly, the moment shattered
confusion reigned as Judas reappeared
