The new words of Christ
around the Passover table
the Seder, ancient words
to the rite of the people
Commanded by God in the desert
before the promised land entered
hundreds of years of tradition
the law stood on its head
Christ at the table
with his disciples around him
those who would betray and deny him
those who would run away
Washing their feet
offering a new covenant
the bread, his body
broken for us
The wine, his blood
poured out as a sacrifice
climbing the cross
to take away our sin, our stain
Rising to come
but that not mentioned
the blood of the lamb
ringing in their ears
wet upon their lips
