A last meal with them
the master and the disciples
gathered around the Passover table
sharing in the Seder
Words different
suddenly changing
the offering of the bread
the cup, sharing in his sacrifice
Not the deliverance from Egypt
away from slavery to the desert
the wandering of the people
before they came into the promised land
This was far more urgent
the son of man, the Messiah
telling them of his suffering
that he was about to die
Though they would betray,
deny and abandon him
He shared with them this meal
his body, his blood
offered for all of us
the Seder never to be the same
