In That Borrowed Room

The world shook
nothing ever the same after
in the things foretold
in what transpired
in the words he spoke
in that borrowed room
the wine and the bread only symbols
the shared remembrance
our new communion
the new chapter, the new book
our story, this new people
his disciples around the table
all of us, down through the ages
all gathered around that table
all of us sharing that meal
in that borrowed room
