He was a lamp
That burned so brightly
Filled with the Spirit
Proclaiming the Christ
He gave light
But he wasn’t the light
Foretelling the coming
Of the light of God
The word made flesh
The living Messiah
Sent to the earth
To save us from death
A lamp on the lampstand
High and burning
Into the darkness shining
Ushering in the light
