Words of her poem
our prayer as a nation
a promise to the troubled
the oppressed yearning to breathe free
Our faith calls us
to an even deeper promise
to seek union, communion
with all who seek you
all who long to walk
with our Risen Lord
to lift up our neighbors
balm for their wounds
to walk with our Savior
where he will lead
Our faith calls us
to be hope for the hopeless
to assuage their fears
and give the prisoners comfort

speaking of the Methodist Movement as a
Resistance Movement,
something that made some people very uncomfortable,
including one long-time Methodist who probably was thinking of John Wesley’s words, “Make all you can, save all you can, give all you can.”
