One of Christ’s last acts,
His last verbal teaching
the lesson to his disciples
on how they are to live
the new command He gave them
to love as He loves us
not something vague,
not in the scripture
the way He walked in life
We are commanded to love
unconditionally
not as we would love
ourselves
to love as Christ loves us
the One who went to the
cross
letting Judas go that night
not stopping the betrayal
willing drinking of the cup
submitting His will to the
Father
choosing the path to Calvary
If we want to be Christ’s
disciples
If we seek to follow His
teachings
to love as He loves us,
giving His life for us,
knowing the cost
We are commanded to love
unconditionally
more than as we would love
ourselves
we are to love as Christ
loved us
offering His body, His blood
climbing the cross in love
