on Good Friday morning
at about six o’clock in the morning
on a night that knew no sleep
Christ stood in the dock of judgment
before Caesar’s representative
Christ accused of blasphemy, of sedition,
of fomenting rebellion against Rome,
of claiming He was God
when He was a man
How that must have felt,
for Christ, the Messiah,
for His mother, for Mary;
Hearing her own people
shouting, “Crucify Him!”,
her child, the Son of God
on Good Friday morning
after a night that knew no sleep
by eight o’clock in the morning
Christ had been judged, beaten,
and scourged by the Romans
Now He was back, presented,
standing before Caesar
the King of the Jews
a beaten, a bloody mess;
but no pity from them.
Hate from the Mob
some of those who had shouted,
“Hosanna!”, only a few days earlier,
when they shouted, Crucify!”,
and led Him to the cross.
