Standing up
for the reading of the word
Bowing down
to worship our God
A lesson from the people
back in the promised land
After exile and slavery
returning to their worship
all of the community
together, receiving
in humble praise and prayer
the teachings of the Lord
So we together,
the congregation assembled
thanking God for the reading
the lessons for our time
A holy continuum
from that time to this age
all of us needing
together, in worship
to guide us and train us
the teachings of the word
to share the love of God
