The Despair of Friday

From the garden
the master captured
turned into their hands
by the kiss of the betrayer

We all scattered
fearful for our lives
Peter denying the Lord
before the cock crowed

Christ’s trial
being spit upon
going before Pilate
turned over to the guard

Whipped and beated
taken to the cross
dying for our sins
all seemed to be lost
