God Turning His Back

Was the darkness
beginning at noon
the shadow of God
God turning his back
unable to watch his son
tortured and dying
there on the cross
convicted by evil men
judged for speaking the truth
yet healing the sins of man

The darkness hung heavy
beneath the glowering sky
the earth trembled
shaken to the core
when the savior died
God sacrificing his son
that we may live again
Descending to the dead
in Sheol for two days
before rising in victory
