Empowered to Speak

Christ, from the wilderness
after the tempting
going throughout the land
spreading his message of love

In his hometown, going
rising in the synagogue
sharing words of the prophet
come to life before their hearing

Empowered to speak
by the same Spirit
God descending
bodily on him

On we too falling
tongues of fire
the Spirit indwelling
a fire burning within our hearts

Commissioned and sent
we like our shepherd
emboldened to speak
to share the love of God
