Toiling with Job

Toiling with Job
walking on the earth
searching for the answer to why
yet nothing there sufficient
in my mortal brain
finding little to hold onto
left to ponder the world
capricious and cruel sometimes
sometimes bliss beyond belief

Not looking for retribution
the scales balanced in this life
sin already paid for
by the lamb going to the cross
yet wanting to understand
that which I cannot fathom
the swings of the pendulum
pain and death in this walk
and joy beyond imagination

The potter spoke
out of the whirlwind
answering the claim
rebuking his claims
the demands he dared to speak

A reminder, the distance to God
how far below
is the home of man

Walking in the dust
rather than riding the clouds
Marveling at the works
of His majestic hands
