Swallowing a Star

Greeted by one of my brothers
standing in the sanctuary aisle
not understanding what he meant
when he said it seemed like
I had swallowed a star

Thinking he had meant my voice
filled with the pollen of spring
a bit of congestion at the start of the day
deepening the timbre of my speech

Yet, it was the Spirit
flowing out of every pore
the joy of this morning of Pentecost
that led him to comment on my demeanor

Happy there in the church
part of the continuum from that day
the faithful gathered in one room
flames descending on us as well
