before the manger
the visit of the Magi
God knew her son’s fate
what was to come
each gift they gave
was a prophecy
a King, a Priest,
a Suffering Servant
the Babe in the manger
and the Man on the cross
these thoughts must have welled up
as she prayed at His feet.
