I am unworthy – v2

I can hear Mary
I understand her protest;
any of us could say this
no matter the task

I am unworthy
not equal to this calling
I am a simple maidservant;
but I submit to God

what must Mary have thought
the visitation of Gabriel;
the words that were spoken
and the child that was within her

hearing the musing, the whisper
I am unworthy, not equal to this calling,
I am a simple maidservant;
but I submit to God
