Burning the palms
to make Wednesday’s ashes
to be ready for the journey
getting a bit of a start
Pausing within the smoke
swirling all around me
making it hard to breathe
the weight of these trials
What is about to begin
the season, Lent, the journey
the tears, the joy, all will come
within the footsteps, the word
The story of Christ’s Passion
at the end of this season
preparing for the time
for the ashes of Wednesday
