To lay down our lives
not bleeding on the cross
but to offer ourselves
as Jesus did, compassion
hearing the cries of our neighbors
loving as he loves us
faithful to his command to love
a new commandment for us
Do what is good for them
not what is good for you
offering yourself in sacrifice
giving to those in need
bearing Christ’s witness boldly
ignoring the personal costs
suffering slings and arrows
carrying our own cross
