Holding on to Bittersweet

not trusting God for protection
settling for the familiar
not venturing forth, courageous,
holding on to bittersweet
the pain of this now…
 
not risking anything, inertia,
praying that this will get better
leaden feet, frozen,
stuck in the quicksand,
trying just to survive…
 
avoiding pain, in stasis,
not taking a risk, moving forward,
choosing the pain of the familiar
not trusting in God’s promise
to protect me now…
