Breaking two commandments

More than two, but breaking two commandments
how unlike the three who stood up to the king
Showering ourselves, our lives to another
over abundance kept for ourselves
Creating a world with individual false idols
clinging to hope in ourselves
Like the rich man, hoarding, a bounty retaining
claiming it all as if we brought it to be
Forgetting our master, our creator
gifts of all that we can see
Turning our backs, our hearts from our savior
trusting that we can save us somehow
Leaving our God as if on the sidelines
ignoring the centrality that our sustainer plays
Living in a world, caught up in its deceptions
denying our neighbors, their daily bread
