Stretched too far

our lives pulled, stretched too far
beyond our breaking,
the shine of contentment gone
driven by earthly desires

Like the rich man called by Christ
to sell his possessions and give them away
or the rich man with the silos full
his heart empty when his time was done

Like them, we have a choice,
contentment with what we have
sharing our abundance, our good fortune
the gifts we have from God

our lives better, our way made straight
life more abundantly, richer
when we choose the way of the cross
the way of the servant, leading to life
