Happy for My Neighbor

If I were one of the workers
those toiling in the field
how would I feel about my neighbor
who was paid as much as me

Would I be upset, ungrateful
for the precious coin in my hand
would I forget the others
who were in the vineyards
while I strayed in far off lands

I should be happy for my neighbors
whenever they come to believe
more fruit for the harvest
more sinners that are redeemed

sermon, "Grumbling about Grace"
by Rev. Frank Gulinello
“Jesus’ parable of the laborers in the vineyard is about
a gracious God whose grace is extraordinarily and
excessively extravagant. Sometimes the
amazing grace of God causes us to grumble because
it seems to be unjust and not fair in our view of the way life should be.”
