Seeing Ourselves

Part of the problem
the blinders
the cataracts
the things getting in the way
keeping us from seeing clearly

All of us sinners
yes, we know that,
but we still sit in judgment
on the merits of our neighbors
their worthiness for redemption
we get in the way of saving grace

Needing new eyes
seeing ourselves in our neighbors
all of us sisters and brothers
all made worthy by Christ
the same coin in our hands
the same saving grace
only through this
may we approach the throne of grace

sermon, "Grumbling about Grace"
by Rev. Frank Gulinello
“Jesus’ parable of the laborers in the vineyard is about
a gracious God whose grace is extraordinarily and
excessively extravagant. Sometimes the
amazing grace of God causes us to grumble because
it seems to be unjust and not fair in our view of the way life should be.”
