The one who was to come
the voice in the wilderness
preparing the way
for that one who was to come
each of them there
in this one moment of time
together in the river
playing their part
in the holy plan of God
Elijah and the Messiah
John and the Christ
into his arms,
into the waters
Jesus being baptized
falling under the waves
into the deep
rising from the waters
the Spirit descending
God blessing this moment
his beloved commissioned
to do the master’s work
