Quenching the Spirit

Another way to look at
the candles going dim
stanching the Spirit
the fire with us still

Quenching the Spirit
extinguishing the light
our breath blowing out the candles
when the world should be bright

The time, Tenebrae,
the darkening gloom
yet we know Easter
the return of the bridegroom
