Rice Paper Fingers – v2

Fingers of last year

hands of the ferns

translucent in the melting

frost bleeding to water

soon to be gone

a memory only

Standing erect

these messengers from last year

hands like a peacock’s plumage

the ferns drying in the air

proud in the plumage

for all to see

Rice paper fingers

hands of the fronds

a field of the ferns

awakening in morning

beneath the forest

aglow in new light
