Leaves of last autumn
bled of all their colors
like rice paper maples
hanging in the ether
not yet on the ground
Illumined like lanterns
rimming the pagoda
nestled in the brush
in the bramble
drawing my searching eye
Lingering longer
not yet for dying
to gather this moment
a beauty within
the arms of the bush
Holding fast
leaves to their branches
enjoying a hint of summer
not yet wanting
to become their mulch
