the crowds that had cried
“Hosanna”
would cry “Crucify”
how quickly they turned
but Christ didn’t waver
Christ knew the price
but He willingly paid it
He chose the cross
we must never forget this
He chose the cross
taking our stain on Him
the perfect blood red
the perfect sacrifice
washing their feet
even the one who would
betray him
the die already cast
the money, the arrangements,
Christ didn’t waver
He stayed on the path
written
all that was foretold
all of this fulfilled
Christ broke bread with them
not just any bread
bread of his body
given for them, for us
even though they would deny
they would run away
Christ broke bread with them
together that day
He said something different
they did not understand
these words unlike any
they had ever heard
the same words of ritual
for a thousand years
changed in these words of
Christ
of personal sacrifice
He spoke a new covenant
because He was God
a new word of promise
spoken by the Lord
words of sacrifice
given by Him freely
given up to us
for us to choose completely
not pushing us to choose
offering Himself for us
wiping the slate clean
giving us the choice
