I
first heard it, driving,
tears
welling up, I could not control them;
I
heard my own gasp
reverberating,
not stopping,
echoing
in the car.
An
audible gasp, remembered,
when
we all were brought into that tragedy
that moment unthinkable,
chaos,
by
the radio, TV screens, the images,
not
wanting to believe.
An
audible gasp, in horror,
not
something to believe
the
innocents lost in their youth;
The
authorities not removing the bodies
knowing
Death reigned inside.
An
audible gasp was our common response
as
each person faced that terror
our
nation held in fear;
Alive
in our hearts that day,
Never
to be forgotten.
